Youth Services

Congratulations to Michelle and Mitzi Hernandez who are sophomores at UC Berkeley and both hope to become medical doctors.

The HMB-ODD Foundation has awarded each of the students a $500 scholarship. The Youth Services Committee of Ocean View Lodge has done the same, which is why each of the twins received two checks.

Katherine Polk, representing the HMB-ODD Foundation and Larkin Evans, representing the Youth Services Committee, made the presentation to these two deserving scholars.

Your generous tax-deductible donation to the HMB-ODD Foundation will help us continue to support deserving local youth in their pursuit of higher education.

That’s exactly what the Half Moon Bay Odd Fellows did at their May social meeting. The Pumpkin Bots are the HMB High School Robotics Team and the students demonstrated their robot, Zip Tie, and told their story. Students Ana Linares, Samantha Norris, Andrea Miguel- Delores, Eli Dill and Jackson Shui attended the Odd Fellows meeting with parents and mentors Matt Noris, Chris Doty, Mey Wong and Sean Riordan.

The arts are important for our community, our world and our soul. The Odd Fellows provides special scholarships for young adults pursuing higher education in the performing, visual and mechanical arts. Your gifts help us assist students like this promising musician.

We're helping Tyler follow his muse.

tyler“I’ve always had an affinity for music. Ever since eighth grade I was writing my songs. I used these songs to help me cope with my fits of anxiety throughout my school years. Although I still hold that fear, I keep it close to me, knowing that whatever happens, in college I'll be choosing the path I want. While I might not be great at it yet, I believe that if I am passionate about it and work hard, it could be my future.”

Giving makes us human.

100% of your contribution to our Youth Services Program will go to underserved Coastside students. The HMB-ODD Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and you will receive documentation that your year-end gift is tax-deductible.

With thanks,

Twelve excited people gathered on the evening of Monday August 16, 2021 at the Odd Fellows Lodge to celebrate and award a scholarship to Jacqueline Nabor-Gomez. Jacqueline was the Odd Fellows choice to be the HMB Odd Fellow delegate to the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Pilgrimage for Youth in 2020.

Due to serious concerns about Delegate safety due to the Covid Pandemic, the 2020 Pilgrimage was cancelled. Then the 2021 Pilgrimage was cancelled, for the same reason.

The cancellations were a huge disappointment to Jacqueline and HMB Odd Fellows. During the long period of application, monitoring status of the pilgrimage and eventual disappointment, Jacqueline showed patience and understanding. This demonstrated the maturity that favorably impressed Odd Fellows when reviewing her essay and interview in the delegate selection process.

Remember Carmen, the Nursing Student who received a scholarship from Odd Fellows in spring of this year? Here is a review and update on what is happening with Carmen…

It started four years ago with a chat between two people sitting beside each other at a wedding reception in Half Moon Bay. One person was Carmen, Licensed Vocational Nurse and the other was Katherine, member of the Youth Services Committee of Odd Fellows in Half Moon Bay.
