BC CosgraveMy Life Fighting Fires —
and Where We Stand Preparing for Emergencies Here on the Coast

David Cosgrave
Battalion Chief, Cal Fire assigned to the Coastside Fire Protection District
Program Manager and Lead Instructor, Coastside CERT

The Coastside Fire Protection District works to protect lives, the environment, and property through fire protection, suppression, emergency medical and rescue actions, and public education. CFPD serves more than 30,000 Coastside residents across 50,000 square miles from the southern end of Tom Lantos Tunnels to Tunitas Creek.

Coastside Fire Protection District is the sponsoring agency for the Coastside Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. coastsidecert.com

Chief Cosgrave is in his 30th year with the Fire department on the coast. He was with Half Moon Bay Fire Protection prior to the 2007 consolidation with Point Montara Fire Protection District. Chief Cosgrave is the program leader and instructor for CERT, CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed.

As a resident and first responder on the Coastside, Chief Cosgrave’s greatest interest is the emergency self-preparedness of the community due to the risk of isolation in a large-scale emergency such as earthquake or fire. Thanks to community support the CERT program is the fastest growing volunteer emergency preparedness program on the coast with more than 1,200 members actively building plans in 32 neighborhoods to be the help before help arrives.
